Podcast #1: keeping Council Tax down

Well, here it is - my first podcast. Not too sure if this is a step back from video, or if it fosters the kind of cosy bonhomie fireside chat which would make FDR proud. Whatever, I decided it had to be tried.

A report back from me on last night’s Council Tax-setting meeting in Oxford. Happy listening.

"If it looks too good to be true, it usually is" is sound advice, so a tax increase that is below inflation is unsustainable in the long term, especially as inflation in the service sector is higher than the average - unless Labour's overcharging has left you with a bundle of cash to spend on improving services, but i doubt that this is the case. But I'm just an ignorant backbencher on a Tory controlled council who have pulled off the same trick - after closing public toilets, cutting rural aid and scrapping grants to community groups. We suspect more cuts (or Council Tax rises) will come after they've bribed their way back to office in May. But I hope I'm wrong about Oxford.
