A simile is like a metaphor with pictures

I came across the story of Mike (The Headless Chicken) on Wikipedia today:

Mike (The Headless Chicken) (1945–47) was a Wyandotte rooster (cockerel) that lived for 18 months after his head had been cut off.

Now if that isn't a metaphor for the post-Blair New Labour government, I don't know what is.
