Not to have supported the United States in [Iraq] would have been seismic. It would have entailed a complete reversal of British foreign policy and a dash to become more deeply enmeshed in the EU. This would have necessitated, at a minimum, euro membership that British voters would rightly not have tolerated.This is the first time I’ve seen the Murdoch press explicitly link opposition to the Iraq war without a UN mandate with a desire to join a single currency. But perhaps I’ve just not been looking hard enough.

Tim Hames’ rather silly column in today’s Times - exculpating Tony Blair from the cataclysmic disaster that has been the Labour/Tory Iraq policy - deserves to be fisked. Here’s hoping someone has the time. I’ll restrict my wonderment to this staggering statement:
